In her talk, “What Happened to ‘It Depends’?”, Amanda set out to bring more balance to the conversation around AI. Drawing on real-world examples, she showed that the answer is rarely as simple as yes or no.
Instead of getting stuck in binary thinking – good or bad, right or wrong – she encouraged a shift in perspective. Perhaps the more relevant questions are: How, When, Where, and Why? In which contexts does AI add value, and where does the human touch – or what we perceive as “authentic” – truly matter?
“Decide what needs to be ‘100% human-made’ in your own context,” says Amanda. “There are no right or wrong answers. Then let what remains become a list of exciting possibilities and potential where AI might be a valuable tool.”
Technological progress will always be part of our reality. At Big Image, much of the work is about finding the balance, combining innovation with craftsmanship. It’s a mindset that has been part of the company since its founding in 1987.
Maybe it’s time to move beyond right or wrong and focus on the moments where AI can help us in what we do – and where the human touch makes all the difference.
